Landscape Architect IV-V

This is a permanent, full-time position with the Department of Accounting & General Services.

Pay

Salary ranges:

• Landscape Architect IV: $5,527 to $6,728 per month (SR-22, Step D to Step I)
• Landscape Architect V: $6,221 to $7,568 per month (SR-24, Step D to Step I)

Hiring rates will be based on availability of funds, the applicant's qualifications, and other relevant factors.

Responsibilities

Duties vary by level and position type:

Landscape Architect IV

• Independently prepares professional landscaping plans, specifications, estimates, and designs for conventional landscape architectural assignments
• Focuses on development, beautification, and rehabilitation of ground areas surrounding public buildings, parks, recreational areas, and erosion control
• May direct activities of a plant nursery

Landscape Architect V

• Prepares professional landscaping plans and designs for development, beautification, and rehabilitation of ground areas around public buildings, parks, or highways
• Handles full range of work with emphasis on advanced aspects of landscape architecture (originality of design, multiple-use concepts, erosion control)
• Participates in and provides technical consultation for development of landscape plans that are contracted out

Position Types

Two general types of positions:

• Type 1: Develops master landscape development plans for specific areas (public buildings, State parks, etc.) involving advanced aspects like multiple-use concepts
• Type 2: Defines goals and develops, clarifies, evaluates, and monitors master landscape plans on a statewide basis for specific areas

Both types also:

• Develop statewide standards, specifications, and work plans/timetables for landscape projects
• Review all design plans for capital improvement and maintenance projects affecting facilities under their jurisdiction

Requirements

• Legal Authorization to Work: Must be a citizen, national, or permanent resident alien of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States
• Professional License:
  • Landscape Architect V: Must possess a valid active license as a professional Landscape Architect (LA) in the State of Hawaii at the time of application
  • For licensure information: Hawaii Professional & Vocational Licensing
• Basic Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in landscape architecture or a closely related field
  • Excess work experience in professional landscape architectural work or comparable administrative/professional/analytical experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis
• Specialized Experience:
  • Landscape Architect IV: Two years of progressively responsible professional landscape architectural work experience
  • Landscape Architect V: Three years of progressively responsible professional landscape architectural work experience
  • Experience must involve one or more of the following:
    • Originating and developing plans for land/water area utilization to meet short- and long-term needs
    • Coordinating and reviewing plans (architectural, engineering, landscaping) for integrated development and conformance with principles
    • Planning and programming construction, restoration, rehabilitation, or expansion phases of landscaping with multiple-use concepts
    • Developing and maintaining standards for landscape architectural procedures, methods, and techniques
• Supervisory Aptitude: Applicants for Landscape Architect V, Type 1 must demonstrate supervisory aptitude or potential
• Driver’s License: Some positions, including the immediate vacancy, require a valid driver’s license at the time of appointment
