Landfill Operator

About the role

The Operator – Heavy Equipment is responsible for the safe operation of heavy equipment at a recycling center, landfill, or transfer station to transfer, spread, cover, load, and/or compact waste or soil efficiently and safely.

Responsibilities

• Perform pre- and post-operation inspection of equipment in accordance with Company policy to ensure windows, lights, mirrors, and rear-view camera are clean.
• Safely and efficiently operate equipment, which may include forklift, excavator, bulldozer, front-end loader, and other machinery using proper safety standards.
• Continuously monitor waste for evidence of unacceptable materials.
• Monitor the condition of equipment to ensure operational readiness and minimize downtime; clean tracks or wheels as needed.
• Perform and document minor service on equipment; refer complex mechanical issues to the Maintenance Shop for repair.
• Complete Equipment Condition Reports and other necessary documentation; report repairs to supervisor as needed.
• Follow all required safety policies and procedures.
• Ensure the shop is clean, serviced, and stored at the completion of each shift.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED.
• One year of prior experience working at sites regulated by OSHA.
• Experience in the Solid Waste Industry preferred.

Physical Demands

• Lifting (50-100 pounds).
• Working in an outside environment.

Work Environment

The role is performed outdoors.
