Schedule
- 8–10 hours/day (overtime as needed)
- Scheduled within landfill operating hours: Monday–Saturday, 6:30 AM–6:00 PM
- Additional work on other days may be required as needed
- Workday includes one 30-minute unpaid meal period and two paid 15-minute breaks

$23.00–$28.00/hour

Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain assigned heavy equipment
- Rip, move, load, and place solid waste material, rock, and dirt
- Clean cabs, tracks, wheels, teeth, and other components of machinery
- Spot, screen, and remove unwanted and recyclable materials
- Identify waste materials inappropriate to the landfill and remove them to an appropriate location
- Assist landfill spotters and gate attendant in maintaining a presentable landfill organization and appearance
- Participate in and support training and initiatives to improve service quality, safety, customer and employee relations, and operational efficiency
- Safely and efficiently operate large heavy equipment including dozer, compactor, excavator, articulated dump truck, and water trucks
- Assist in the operation of the Columbia Tipper
- Work in compliance with all landfill required permits
Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License with clean driving record
- Class B driver’s license OR ability to obtain one within 6 months
- Legible handwriting and ability to carry out oral and written instructions in English
- Ability to read equipment instruction manuals
- Follow all required safety policies and procedures
- Ability to work safely alone and with others
- Developing time management skills to complete responsibilities efficiently and safely
- Ability to work at a fast pace and respond to multiple tasks simultaneously
- Comfortable using smartphone and tablet technology to record daily activities and communicate with team
- Demonstrates honesty, trustworthiness, and good decision-making skills
Essential Functions
- Tolerance to work in extreme weather and environmental conditions (temperatures from below freezing to over 110 degrees, rain, snow, wind, dust, and mud)
- Ability to lift up to 65 pounds by hand; work with others and/or machines to lift heavier objects
- Back, leg, arm, and shoulder strength required to clean wire, heavy cable, dirt, and other debris in awkward positions
- Use of various hand tools including shovels and picks
- Capacity to operate equipment for up to 3 hours at a time, and between 4 and 11.5 hours in a workday
- Mobility to repeatedly access and egress heavy equipment on flat and sloped terrain, and bend, twist, and extend the body during operation
- Strength and coordination in feet, legs, hands, and arms to operate controls while being jarred and jostled in the cab
- Ability to safely climb on and off heavy equipment for operation, cleaning, and inspection
- Ability to walk/stand on uneven solid waste cells with slopes up to 50% (2:1 slope) to deploy plastic cover material
- Complete and pass random drug and alcohol tests in accordance with DOT and company standards
Conditions of Employment
- Subject to pre-employment drug testing and random selection drug and alcohol testing per DOT requirements and company policy
- Must pass background check and driving record (MVR) review
