Land Surveyor (Independence Excavating)

Independence Excavating is looking for a full-time Land Surveyor responsible for preparing and reviewing data for field crews, preparing and approving cut sheets, and as-builts on construction projects.

Responsibilities

• Produce and verify cut sheets
• Oversee and coordinate the initial layout at the job site and provide continuous monitoring
• Provide work control lines and elevations required for accurate measurement and correct installation of material by crafts
• Check as-built conditions using surveying techniques
• Provide topographic and cross-section surveys for planning and payment quantities
• Supervise Surveying Technician and Surveying Trainee personnel
• Make important decisions on interpreting drawings and specifications and apply them to the physical layout at the job site

Requirements

• Minimum high school diploma; additional training and/or related certificate preferred
• Minimum five years of previous related experience
• Comfort with Trimble GPS equipment, Trimble machine control, Trimble total station setup, etc.
• Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D
• Ability to build surfaces for GPS equipment
• Thorough understanding of surveying practices and equipment use
• Good math skills
• Strong verbal communication skills to instruct and collaborate with internal and external contacts
• Ability to effectively communicate the rationale behind decisions
• Work must be performed carefully and with great accuracy
• Valid driver’s license
• Willingness to work outside in all weather conditions (field and office position)
• Local travel to job sites required
• Occasional overtime may be necessary during peak times
