Licensed Athletic Trainer in State of WI Valid driver’s license for use in Wisconsin and current auto insurance. Skin Caliper Certification preferred Valid CPR and AED training Requirements for Athletic Trainers Position Summary This position, using written protocols approved by a supervising physician, provides evaluation and treatment of injuries or illnesses sustained while participating in a physical activity. These services may include but are not limited to, the schools systems of Lafayette County and the surrounding area, clinical services within the Rehab department, supportive services in the Specialty Clinic Ortho Department and Community Outreach programs in areas related to physical activity. They will also perform Rehab Service Aide duties. The athletic trainer is expected to meet LHC’s professional, clinical, technical, communication and documentation requirements and standards and to make decisions based on established guidelines. Essential Job Functions Under direction of supervising physician and within written protocols, provide assessment, evaluation and treatment of injuries that occur during physical activities during weekday, evening and weekend hours. This can includeTaking a basic medical history which may include any of the following: Previous medical history. Previous surgical history. Pertinent family medical history. Current medication history including known drug allergies Relevant social history. Chief medical complaint. History of the present injury or illness for which the person to be treated is seeking evaluation and treatment. Perform evaluations that may include Palpation. General observation Motion assessment Muscle strength tests Endurance tests. Neurological assessment Joint play assessment Functional evaluation Objective physical measurements Circulatory assessment Performing treatments that may include Emergency care Ultrasound Phonophoresis Electrical nerve stimulation Iontophoresis Specified diathermy Intermittent compression Traction Therapeutic massage Moist heat Paraffin baths Cryotherapy Perform rehabilitation that may include Progressive resistance exercise Range of motion exercise Trigger point therapy Joint mobilization for range of motion only Proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation Functional exercise Cardiovascular exercise Aquatic exercise Taping, bracing and splinting Isokinetic exercise Isometric exercise Isotonic exercise Administering specifically enumerated drugs. Provides education to athletes/coaches/patient/ family and the community in the areas of sports/physical activity injury and prevention. Provides input as to the fitness and conditioning status or athletes/physical activity participants. Coordinates pre- and post- participations exams and acquires protective equipment for individuals as needed. Provides athletic training services at sponsored sporting events. Assists physical therapists in the treatment of patients with sports or orthopedic conditions referred for rehabilitation. The physical therapist will evaluate the patient, set goals and monitor progress. The athletic trainer will assist with the implementation of the treatment plan Woks with staff to develop and implement outreach programs. Physical Demands Full range of body motion and dexterity to allow for the significant handling, transferring, pushing/pulling, and lifting of patients and equipment. The ability to frequently lift, carry, push or pull up to 75 lb. and occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull over 75 lb. Standing and walking 85% of the time and sitting 15% of the time. Eye-hand coordination, finger dexterity, odor and color perception and discrimination, functional visual ability and depth perception, functional sound perception and discrimination Frequent bending, kneeling, climbing, twisting, reaching at/or above and below shoulder level, and balancing. Exposure to unpredictable patient behaviors. Requires independent car travel to facilities. Equipment Knowledge Ability to use oxygen delivery systems, lifts and other transfer devices, as well as ECG machines, cardiac defibrillators, and telemetry monitoring systems. Ability to use office equipment such as the phone/paging systems, copy, scanning, fax, computer and printer options.
