Lactation Consultant, OBGYN, Full-Time, Days
About the role
The Lactation Consultant is a member of the nursing staff who influences quality patient care in the area of lactation and breastfeeding through an integral role as clinician, educator and consultant.
Responsibilities
- Functions as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team and consults with physicians, pharmacists, and other appropriate individuals as necessary in order to serve as a direct resource to breastfeeding mothers and babies.
- Functions as a Lactation Consultant in area(s) of expertise, collaborating with the mother, the primary nurse and physician in the management of lactation and breastfeeding.
- Assists the primary nurse to formulate a nursing care plan for establishment of lactation and breastfeeding.
- Collaborates with all members of the health care team to assess, plan implement, and evaluate lactation and breastfeeding problems and suggest treatment approaches and outcomes.
- Develops, evaluates and revises policies and procedures related to lactation and breastfeeding.
- Maintains and evaluates hospital practices which promote or impede lactation and breastfeeding.
- Responds to requests for information concerning lactation and breastfeeding from outside the medical center as time allows.
- Participates in all aspects of evaluation, acquisition, maintenance, repair, rental, sale, and instruction in the use of all products related to lactation and breastfeeding.
- Generates Quality Improvement statements and evaluates achievement of goals in the area of lactation and breastfeeding.
- Collaborates with OB/Ped Leadership in the development of programs.
Requirements
- Active Registered Professional Nurse licensure in Illinois
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree required
- Three years of clinical nursing experience in either Pediatric or Obstetrics in a tertiary center or large community center
- One or more years' of Lactation Consultant experience
- International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) Certification or Certification Eligibility preferred
Qualifications

Schedule
The position is full-time (1.0 FTE) with days shift and offsite clinic requirements to our Orland Park, South Loop, DCAM locations.
