Lacrosse Coach - Boys Varsity

The Bishop’s School, founded in 1909 and affiliated with the Episcopal Church, is an independent, all-gender college-preparatory school for 800 students in grades six through twelve. Located on a historic campus in La Jolla, just 10 miles north of downtown San Diego, the School maintains a student-teacher ratio of approximately 9 to 1 and is recognized for academic, artistic, and athletic excellence while fostering character development, diversity, inclusion, and belonging.

About the role

The Bishop’s School seeks a dedicated, knowledgeable, and student-centered High School Boys’ Varsity Lacrosse Head Coach to lead and develop the School’s boys’ lacrosse program. The Head Coach will provide leadership and oversight for the entire boys’ lacrosse program, including Varsity, Junior Varsity, and Middle School levels, ensuring a cohesive program and positive experience for student-athletes at every stage of development. This part-time seasonal role spans the pre-season, regular spring season, and playoff rounds, with an anticipated start date of December 1, 2026.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and lead effective daily practices and team activities
• Prepare student-athletes for interscholastic competition while emphasizing skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship
• Maintain knowledge of CIF and applicable league rules and regulations
• Communicate regularly with student-athletes regarding goals, development, and expectations
• Evaluate individual and team performance and provide constructive feedback
• Monitor and support the physical development and well-being of student-athletes through appropriate training methods
• Maintain team records, documentation, and reports as required
• Utilize the HUDL game film system and appropriate social media platforms to enhance game analysis, player development, and program engagement
• Assist with the organization and management of home contests and program logistics
• Transport students in school vehicles when necessary and in accordance with school policies
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Demonstrated coaching and leadership skills in the sport of lacrosse
• Ability to inspire, motivate, and mentor student-athletes
• Knowledge of lacrosse rules, strategies, and competition standards
• Knowledge of strength and conditioning principles appropriate for student-athletes
• Ability to build positive relationships with student-athletes, families, and colleagues
• Strong work ethic with a proactive, responsible, and reliable approach
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to collaborate with members of the athletics department and the broader school community
• Intermediate proficiency with Google Workspace and Microsoft Office; willingness to learn new systems
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, and occasional off-season events

• Demonstrated ability to follow athletic regulations and school policies

Qualifications

• Previous experience working with students in grades 6-12
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with student-athletes while maintaining high standards of professionalism and integrity

Required Certifications

Current or the ability to complete prior to starting the role:

• NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching
• First Aid and CPR Certification
• NFHS Sudden Cardiac Arrest Certification
• NFHS Concussion Training
• NFHS Heat Illness Prevention Training

Pay

The anticipated hourly rate for this position is $40/hour to $45/hour based on experience.
