About the role
This position directly supports the Defense Fuels mission space by enabling reliable, high-speed data acquisition and controls integration across critical fuel infrastructure. The engineer ensures secure, compliant operations where high-speed LabVIEW systems interface with low-speed PLC-controlled platforms to maintain mission-critical readiness. This role provides engineering support across multiple test operations, spanning small benchtop test setups through large-scale industrial test stands.
Responsibilities
- Lead high-speed LabVIEW data acquisition and control system development integrating low-speed PLC-based subsystems.
- Ensure synchronized communication, data integrity, and reliability across multi-platform control architectures.
- Support a diverse portfolio of test stands ranging from small-scale component validation rigs to fully integrated large-scale system qualification stands.
- Architect, develop, and maintain LabVIEW applications for high-speed data acquisition and real-time control.
- Design communication bridges between high-speed LabVIEW systems and low-speed PLC platforms.
- Collaborate with PLC engineers to align LabVIEW logic with interlocks, alarming, and I/O management.
- Prepare wiring diagrams, loop sheets, channel maps, and system documentation.
- Coincide with vendors and generate technical reports.
- Implement software configuration management for LabVIEW, FPGA, and test automation code.
- Lead automation initiatives using Python, MATLAB, and AI-supported engineering processes.
- Mentor junior engineers and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
- Provide engineering design, troubleshooting, and commissioning support across multiple test stands of varying scale and complexity.
Requirements
- B.S. or M.S. in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of experience with LabVIEW development and test system integration.
- Experience coordinating LabVIEW applications with PLC-controlled systems.
- Experience supporting both small-scale and large-scale automated test stands.
- Experience designing and validating automated test stands or instrumentation systems.
- Excellent technical communication and documentation skills.
- Ability to obtain or maintain a DOE Q Clearance.
Qualifications
- NI CLD or CLA certification (preferred).
- Experience with LabVIEW RT/FPGA and deterministic data streaming (preferred).
- Familiarity with PlantPAx, FactoryTalk, OPC UA, Modbus, and industrial networks (preferred).
- Knowledge of ISA standards, SIS concepts, PHA, NFPA, and NEC codes (preferred).
- Experience applying AI/ML in test or industrial automation systems (preferred).
