About the role

This role focuses on automating test and R&D systems using advanced LabVIEW architectures and modern design patterns. You will collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders to define system requirements, design robust software and hardware solutions, and deliver reliable automated test systems. The position offers the opportunity to lead technical design, mentor engineers, and work with cutting-edge technologies in measurement, control, robotics, and vision systems.

Responsibilities

  • Automate test systems and research and development systems using LabVIEW and related technologies.
  • Collaborate with customers and internal teams to gather system requirements and translate them into clear functional and technical specifications.
  • Design applications using LabVIEW Object-Oriented Programming (LVOOP) and the Actor Framework to create scalable, modular, and maintainable architectures.
  • Develop and modify complex LabVIEW applications that leverage LVOOP and established design patterns such as the Actor Framework.
  • Design and develop SQL scripts for databases such as SQLite, Microsoft SQL Server, or MySQL to support data logging, reporting, and system configuration.
  • Design electrical control panels and instrument wiring diagrams to integrate measurement and control hardware with software systems.
  • Commission automated systems at customer sites, including system setup, integration, testing, troubleshooting, and validation.
  • Train and mentor new engineers on LabVIEW best practices, design patterns, coding standards, and system architectures.
  • Collaborate with mechanical designers to align software, electrical, and mechanical design, and provide design recommendations that improve system performance and maintainability.
  • Work with robotics and vision inspection systems as part of integrated automation solutions, ensuring reliable operation and accurate test results.
  • Document system designs, software architectures, and test procedures to support long-term maintainability and knowledge sharing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience designing and architecting LabVIEW applications.
  • Strong proficiency in LabVIEW, including experience building applications from scratch.
  • Hands-on experience with LabVIEW Object-Oriented Programming (LVOOP).
  • Experience using the Actor Framework or similar LabVIEW design frameworks to create modular and scalable applications.
  • Ability to design and develop complex LabVIEW applications that follow structured design patterns.
  • Experience designing and developing SQL scripts for SQLite, Microsoft SQL, or MySQL databases.
  • Ability to design electrical control panels and instrument wiring diagrams for automated systems.
  • Strong collaboration skills to work directly with customers and cross-functional teams to gather requirements and define system functionality.
  • Ability to commission systems at customer sites, including setup, integration, and troubleshooting.
  • Capability to train and mentor engineers in LabVIEW development and best practices.

Additional Qualifications

  • Certified LabVIEW Architect (CLA) certification is highly desirable.
  • Experience with NI Real-Time programming for embedded targets such as CompactRIO (cRIO) and PXI Express (PXIe).
  • Experience collaborating with mechanical designers and providing design recommendations to optimize system performance.
  • Background working with robotics systems in automated test or production environments.
  • Experience with vision inspection systems for automated measurement and quality control.
  • Familiarity with automation of test systems and R&D systems across different industries.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to debug complex integrated hardware and software systems.
  • Effective communication skills for working with customers, engineers, and multidisciplinary teams.

Work Environment

The role is based onsite in Aurora, OH for the first year to build strong relationships with the team, gain deep familiarity with systems, and fully integrate into the company culture. After this initial period, the position transitions to a hybrid work model that typically includes three days onsite and two days working remotely each week, offering a balance of collaboration and flexibility.

You will work in a hands-on engineering environment that involves laboratory and test areas, electrical panels, instrumentation, and automation equipment, as well as office-based software development and design activities. The environment emphasizes collaboration, knowledge sharing, and mentoring, with access to modern tools and technologies for LabVIEW development, database integration, robotics, and vision systems.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $100,000 - $130,000 per year.

Benefits

  • Travel incentives + per-diem packages for field assignments
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • 401(k) with company match (half of up to 6%)
  • Generous PTO which includes vacation, holidays, and unlimited sick time
  • Ongoing training, certifications, and professional development support
