About the role

This position can be located in Aitkin, Cromwell, Hinckley, McGregor or Moose Lake, MN. It is a seasonal, full-time opportunity with the potential for year-round employment. Hours are Monday - Friday, 40 hours/week minimum, with higher overtime during peak summer months. Responsibilities

  • Conduct manual labor activities including digging trenches/holes with hand tools, exposing existing underground utilities, greasing equipment, and maintaining a safe work zone.
  • Install utility pedestals, cabinets, and hand holes for both mainline and residential service connections.
  • Handle materials including conduit and pull/install fiber or cable to support both network infrastructure and customer service drops.
  • Perform site restoration including grading, black dirt placement, seeding, and minor concrete work; restore all job sites to Midco standards.
  • Set up safety perimeters using signage, cones, and barriers to protect team members and the public.
  • Maintain safe working habits and conditions in accordance with all regulations, procedures, and company safety standards.
  • Provide exceptional customer experience when interacting with property owners or community members, clearly communicating work being performed and addressing concerns professionally.
  • Maintain a clean environment by clearing debris and materials upon completion of work.
  • Demonstrate adherence of Midco’s safety program by enforcing safety rules and procedures, wearing appropriate safety apparel (e.g., hard hats, safety vests, OSHA-approved boots), and operating all equipment safely.
  • Model Midco’s mission, vision, values, ethos, and Leadership Success Drivers, and inspire others to do the same.
  • Maintain customer privacy by adhering to Midco’s privacy guidelines while actively following Midco policies and procedures.
  • Maintain reliable and predictable attendance as required by the position.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) or a minimum of 2 years of equivalent work experience.
  • Complete Construction First Time (FTR) certification within 60 days of hire and consistently apply principles in all aspects of work.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and meet all applicable Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements for the state(s) in which the team member operates.
  • A DUI conviction within the past 5 years will result in disqualification from employment in these positions.
  • Develop working knowledge of construction, the National Electrical Code, OSHA regulations, state and local regulations and general safety standards.

Qualifications

  • No experience required for Laborer.
  • 3 months in role or equivalent work experience and knowledge of underground utility construction for Laborer I.
  • Operate and drive a company vehicle in compliance with all policies and traffic laws for Laborer I.
  • Maintain vehicle cleanliness and perform scheduled maintenance for Laborer I.
  • Understand locate flags/color codes and their meaning for Laborer I.
  • Independently perform routine tasks such as utility exposure, fiber/cable pulling, and site restoration for Laborer I.
  • Set up safety perimeters and ensure compliance with safety standards for Laborer I.
  • Operate small equipment (e.g., skid steer, VAC) safely and efficiently with supervision for Laborer I.
  • 9 months in role or equivalent experience and knowledge of underground utility construction for Laborer II.
  • Fully restore job sites to Midco standards for Laborer II.
  • Independently operate VAC trucks in accordance with safety practices for Laborer II.
  • Read basic site plans and assist with jobsite coordination and material staging for Laborer II.
  • 18 months in role or equivalent experience with underground utility construction for Laborer III.
  • Competent in equipment operations including mini excavators, drills, and locators for Laborer III.
  • Understand jobsite operations (e.g., drilling strategy, construction layout) for Laborer III.
  • Perform limited jobsite oversight and guide junior laborers as needed for Laborer III.
  • Troubleshoot minor site issues and ensure restoration meets quality standards for Laborer III.

Pay

The hiring range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00 per hour. This pay range is inclusive of multiple job levels. The actual base hourly pay offered to the most qualified individual will be determined based on multiple factors including the level of job offered, internal equity, location, and the individual’s job-related knowledge, skills and experience. This position is hourly and may be eligible for additional compensation such as overtime and career progression pay increases.

Schedule

Seasonal, full-time with the potential for year-round employment. Monday - Friday, 40 hrs/week minimum. Overtime higher through peak summer months.
