Responsibilities
- Dig using hand shovel and mechanical tools
- Install and maintain underground telecommunications cabling
- Climb in and out of equipment (trucks, cars, backhoes, trenchers, etc.)
- Operate or work around heavy equipment and machinery
- Work in congested or remote areas
- Maintain visual and audible contact with other crew members and all moving or stationary persons/vehicles/objects to ensure safe coordination of movement
- Perform general construction work under direction of Foreman/Supervisor
- Maintain safe working habits/conditions according to all regulations, procedures and policies
- Intermediate-level support with greater responsibility, troubleshooting, and operational tasks, all while working under general supervision and following standard policies and procedures
- Resolve routine issues while escalating more complex problems
- Provide support to small workgroups to meet project goals on time and follow safety standards
- Complete and verify detailed production reports to maintain accurate project records
- Aid in site restoration efforts, including final grading and landscaping, to meet client expectations
- Train and mentor Level I and II laborers to improve their skills and knowledge
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- To be 18 years of age or older
- Authorization to work in the United States for this company
- High School Diploma, GED equivalent, or relevant work experience
- 3 years of experience in underground telecommunications construction or a related field
- Valid State driver's license (cannot be Provisional), including an acceptable driving record
- CDL required
- Must be able to pass a background check and company drug screening
- Must be able to attend and pass all company required training as needed
- May be required to work over-time; after hours; on weekends or be on-call as work is needed to ensure work is completed
- May include working nights and holidays as needed
- May be required to travel in state or overnight as necessary to meet business needs
- Regular and timely attendance is an essential function of this position
Qualifications
- Proficient in troubleshooting, operational skills, and handling more complex tasks under supervision
- Basic knowledge of and ability to operate various types of utility trucks and equipment in a safe manner
- Basic knowledge of and ability to use hand tools and equipment in a safe manner
- Basic knowledge of and ability to read prints and interpret utility maps to identify the type and size of underground utilities
- Ability to communicate effectively with customers, employees, etc.
- Strong ability to work independently and provide support in team environments
- Proven leadership experience to direct workflow and produce high quality results
- Any combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates ability to perform the designated job duties and responsibilities of the position
- Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and extended hours as needed
- Ability to work safely in all weather conditions
- Effective leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to make common sense understanding to carry out instructions that are provided in written, oral or drawing. Ability to deal with and understand problems involving different variables in many varied situations involving employees, customers and vendors.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts (measurements in terms of distance, proportions, percentages and area. Ability to apply concepts of basic mathematics.
- Ability to read, understand and interpret documents such as safety rules and requirements, machine manuals of operation and process procedures. Ability to write information including reports. Ability to speak effectively to customers, coworkers, vendors and the public.
Additional Qualifications
- Proficient in basic operational tasks, data entry, record maintenance, and working under established procedures
- Basic knowledge of and ability to operate various types of utility trucks and equipment in a safe manner
- Basic knowledge of and ability to use hand tools and equipment in a safe manner
- Ability to read prints and interpret utility maps to identify the type and size of underground utilities
- Ability to communicate effectively with customers, employees, etc.
- Able to lift/carry 50 lbs regularly and up to 75 lbs as needed with or without assistance
- Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and extended hours as needed
- Ability to work safely in all weather conditions

- 1 year of work-related experience pertaining to utility construction, telecommunications or laborer related work

Pay Range
The Laborer Telecom Underground III hourly wage range is $21.15 - $25.96 depending on experience.
