We’re looking for a Laborer II Telecom Underground to join our team and help connect America. The Laborer will complete general labor duties related to telecommunications construction as directed by the Foreman/Supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Dig using hand shovel and mechanical tools
  • Install and maintain underground telecommunications cabling
  • Climb in and out of equipment (trucks, cars, backhoes, trenchers, etc.)
  • Operate or work around heavy equipment and machinery
  • Work in congested or remote areas
  • Maintain visual and audible contact with other crew members and all moving or stationary persons/vehicles/objects to ensure safe coordination of movement
  • Perform general construction work under direction of Foreman/Supervisor
  • Maintain safe working habits/conditions according to all regulations, procedures, and policies
  • Perform more complex tasks with some independence, including equipment operation, record-keeping, and following clearly defined processes and procedures
  • Resolve routine issues while escalating more complex problems
  • Perform work in all weather conditions
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Authorization to work in the United States for this company
  • High School Diploma, GED equivalent, or relevant work experience
  • Valid standard Driver's License or Class A Commercial Driver's License
  • Pass a background check and company drug screening
  • Attend and pass all company required training as needed
  • May be required to work overtime, after hours, on weekends, or be on-call as work is needed
  • Regular and timely attendance is an essential function of this position
  • Lift/carry 50 lbs regularly and up to 75 lbs as needed with or without assistance
  • Work in all weather conditions

Qualifications

  • 1 year of work-related experience pertaining to utility construction, telecommunications, or laborer-related work
  • Proven leadership experience to direct workflow and produce high-quality results
  • Any combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates ability to perform the designated job duties and responsibilities
  • Proficient in basic operational tasks, data entry, record maintenance, and working under established procedures
  • Basic knowledge of and ability to operate various types of utility trucks and equipment in a safe manner
  • Basic knowledge of and ability to use hand tools and equipment in a safe manner
  • Ability to read prints and interpret utility maps to identify the type and size of underground utilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers, employees, etc.

Skills

  • Ability to make common-sense decisions to carry out instructions provided in written, oral, or drawing form
  • Ability to deal with and understand problems involving different variables in varied situations involving employees, customers, and vendors
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts (measurements in terms of distance, proportions, percentages, and area)
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic mathematics
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret documents such as safety rules, machine manuals, and process procedures
  • Ability to write reports and other information
  • Ability to speak effectively to customers, coworkers, vendors, and the public

Physical & Safety Requirements

  • Exposure to dust, fumes, or other airborne pathogens
  • Exposure to toxic or corrosive chemicals as well as moving machinery parts and pieces
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus potentially near and/or far as needed
  • Position is safety-sensitive

Pay

The Laborer Telecom Underground II hourly wage range is $18.75 - $23.55 depending on experience.
