Laborer Production
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Backfill jobs and provide coverage in other area(s) as assigned to meet production goals and scheduling requirements to fill customer orders
- Operates industrial machines and machinery
- Operates heavy equipment such as forklift, palletizer and other industrial equipment as required
- Loads trucks and containers with finished product some of which may require handling and hand stacking
- Packages finished product for shipment
- Prepares and packs finished product for shipment
- Prepares, packs, loads, unloads, maintains, repairs furnaces and furnace components
- Uses chains, slings, straps, hooks, and other lifting devices to manually move stock in and out of assigned work area
- Clean, identify, and inspect product stock for defects
- Reports and notifies management of any upset condition
- Uses scales, weights, and other measuring devices
- Uses hand tools, power tools, and cutting devices
- Moves materials and product stock through process and in/out of storage and staging areas
- Performs routine inspections and completes inspection logs of equipment and PPE as required
- Completes routine housekeeping tasks (sweeping, mopping, sanitizing, wiping surfaces, emptying trash/scrap containers, and cleaning of assigned area(s))
- Participates in scheduled training sessions such as required safety training
- May work independently as assigned or in a group setting and can be assigned to other jobs as required
- Reports to Production Management
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- High school diploma or GEDA valid driver’s license
- Willing and able to work safely in a manufacturing environment
- Able to perform manual labor
- Able to lift up to 50 pounds
- Able to pass a drug test and background check
- Able to follow instructions and work in a team environment
- Able to communicate clearly and effectively
- Able to read and interpret documents such as work instructions, safety rules, and operating procedures
- Able to reason and interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
- Able to work a rotating shift as assigned including daily and weekly overtime requirements
Preferred Experience/Skills
- Previous work experience in an industrial heavy manufacturing work environment
- Previous safety training or OSHA certification
- Previous quality training or ISO certification
- Heavy equipment operator license or previous experience operating heavy equipment
- Previous Forklift certification
- Previous experience operating industrial machines and/or machinery
- Computer skills
Work Environment
- Work is performed in several multi-level detached buildings in industrial environment requiring work in high precarious places via vertical ladders and steps inside and outside the plant in all types of adverse weather conditions
- This individual is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and some hazardous chemicals
- The plant utilizes high levels of electricity and individuals have to be safety minded in all activities
- The work environment is dusty
- This individual performs work in and around hot temperatures, elevated surfaces, confined spaces, and overhead cranes
Physical Demands
- While performing the duties of this job, you must have the ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation including, but not limited to sitting, standing, bending, stooping, twisting, kneeling, crouching, squatting, ladder/stair climbing, crawling, reaching overhead, reaching at shoulder level, reaching at knee and floor level, pivoting, pushing, pulling, neck extension/rotation, using vibratory tools, using air tools, and moving about the plant
- Walking, walking on irregular surfaces and balancing will be required
- Felling, finger movement, pinching, fine motor dexterity, hearing, sight to include depth perception and color vision and the ability to speak clearly will be required
- Ability to lift and/or move 50 lbs.
- Ability to comply with PPE requirements (ability to pass a fit-test and wear a respirator is required for certain positions/areas)
- Ability to operate a vehicle
