Laborer-General

This is a temporary, full-time position anticipated to last up to 6–12 months. Work is 100% in-person at the Roseville job site; telework is not eligible.

About the role

Perform entry-level work in a variety of trade areas involving modular furniture, including designing modular office layouts, removing and installing modular office parts, and repairing building walls and equipment through established procedures under general supervision. This position also serves as a backup mail courier and drives frequently to various MnDOT locations.

Responsibilities

• Design modular office layouts
• Remove and install modular office parts
• Repair building walls and equipment following established procedures
• Perform occasional mail courier duties as backup to the regular driver
• Drive to various MnDOT locations
• Order and track parts, maintain inventory of modular components
• Operate a variety of building-related tools (e.g., hand tools, drills, circular saw)
• Disassemble, repair, and assemble modular furniture pieces and related components
• Frequently carry up to 60-pound boxes and move loads up to 1,000 pounds using equipment

Requirements

• Strong mathematical aptitude
• Organizational skills to order and track parts and maintain inventory
• Knowledge of methods, tools, and equipment used in maintenance and construction work
• Ability to operate building-related tools (e.g., hand tools, drills, circular saw)
• Mechanical ability to disassemble, repair, and assemble modular furniture
• Physical ability to frequently carry up to 60 pounds and move loads up to 1,000 pounds with equipment
• Forklift operator certification or ability to obtain certification
• Valid Class D Driver’s License
• Successful completion of a background check prior to employment

Preferred Qualifications

• Customer service skills to communicate professionally with customers
• Experience using Outlook to read, compose, and respond to email
• Experience with Microsoft Excel to enter data and maintain spreadsheets (e.g., parts and furniture inventory)
• Computer experience to complete required online training (e.g., workplace safety, cyber security)

Pay

$21.33 – $24.63 per hour ($44,537 – $51,427 annually).

Schedule

• Day shift: 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
• Days of work: Monday – Friday
• No travel required
