Laborer

About the role

This position involves performing a full range of laborer functions at the Battle Creek VAMC, including but not limited to:

• Heaving, lifting, moving, disassembling, and assembling of moderately heavy objects such as furniture, moving large equipment items (both crated and uncrated).
• Mowing (both walk behind and riding type mowers), tree trimming, pruning, and seeding.
• Operating zero-turn riding mowers with 72-inch mower decks in tight and sloped areas.
• Digging and filling in holes, ditches, and trenches with pick and shovel.
• Breaking up pavement with a jackhammer, mixing, pouring concrete, applying asphalt and hot mix products, and filling and leveling holes in damaged roads.
• Performing snow removal duties, including shoveling snow, using a snow blower, plowing, and spreading salt & sand.
• Operating John Deere compact tractors with significant horsepower, including models 3047R, 4066R, 3046R, 3039R, and 3720.
• Loading, unloading, and transporting furniture and supplies.

Responsibilities

Regularly operates zero-turn riding mowers equipped with 72-inch mower decks in tight and sloped areas.

Uses jackhammers to break up pavement and pour concrete.

Operates John Deere compact tractors with significant horsepower for snow removal and other tasks.

Loads, unloads, and transports furniture and supplies.

Requirements

Must be a U.S. citizen.

Must pass a background investigation.

Must be able to operate various types of machinery and equipment, including zero-turn riding mowers, jackhammers, and John Deere compact tractors.
