Laboratory Technician II

Shift: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM

About the Role

The Laboratory Technician II performs assigned laboratory testing in accordance with regulated techniques, safety protocols, approved procedures, and customer-specific methods. Responsibilities include documenting data, preparing technical documents, and supporting laboratory operations.

Responsibilities

• Plans, organizes, and prepares for daily work autonomously and collaboratively to determine the best methods for accomplishing goals.
• Assists and trains Laboratory Technician I.
• Contributes to team efforts by adhering to STERIS policies, GMP, Lean principles, and management directives; performs additional duties as assigned.
• May require the use of equipment and/or power tools, and obtaining a boilers license where applicable.

Laboratory Testing

• Prepares and executes microbiology or chemistry laboratory tests (e.g., disinfection efficacy testing, bioburden, sterility, LAL endotoxin, microbial limits, antimicrobial effectiveness, organism identification, EO residual, cleaning qualifications, and test method validations) following regulated techniques, safety protocols, and customer-specific methods.
• Reads, interprets, and records test results.
• Prepares technical documents (paper and electronic) using Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Gathers basic information from customers and creates/edits customer-specific preparatory methods for approval.
• Participates in the development and review of testing methods and Standard Operating Procedures.
• Maintains inventory for specified areas.
• Performs secondary review of data sheets.

Media Production

• Produces media and reagents, ensuring required specifications are followed to support critical laboratory testing functions.
• Maintains, cleans, and sterilizes laboratory media, equipment, supplies, and general working areas while ensuring a safe work environment.
• Assists in the operation of steam sterilizers and maintains traceability.

Requirements

• Minimum 4 years of laboratory experience with a high school diploma or equivalent, or no experience with an Associate's Degree.
• Knowledge of microbes (e.g., bacteria, mold, yeast) or knowledge of chemical assays and equipment.
• Understanding of standard aseptic techniques and/or common laboratory equipment use.
• Familiarity with good manufacturing principles.
• Ability to prepare technical documents.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Ability to work under pressure, adapt to change, and interpret rules, schedules, procedures, and instructions.
• Basic math skills, including fractions, decimals, and dilution schemes.
• Ability to lift and exert force up to 25 lbs.
• Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.

Pay

Pay range: $22.00 - $24.00 per hour, based on experience. This position is eligible for bonus participation.
