About the role

You will perform all tasks related to the fermentation of active biological ingredients produced in Lincoln, Nebraska. This includes learning and understanding basic microbiological techniques associated with the fermentation process, complying with standard operating procedures and regulatory documents, and demonstrating strong communication skills. You will also utilize mechanical skills to maintain equipment, identify mechanical problems, and maintain a safe work environment while ensuring reliability in attendance.

Schedule

3rd shift: Sunday – Thursday, 10:00 PM – 6:30 AM. Overtime, weekends, and holidays may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate safe work habits and maintain a safe work environment, complying with safety SOPs and procedures (MSDS guidelines, Near Miss reporting, PPE, biohazard training, monthly safety training, etc.)
  • Demonstrate reliability in attendance and punctuality
  • Learn and understand basic microbiological techniques to prepare and maintain cultures, including inoculating, inactivating, harvesting, and dispensing product for bacterial antigen production
  • Comply with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and associated documentation necessary to perform job functions
  • Train in and demonstrate understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)
  • Demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, written, and non-verbal) within and outside the department
  • Perform mathematical calculations and metric conversions
  • Assist in completing documentation, including process worksheets and log sheets
  • Operate, clean, and perform minor maintenance on equipment such as fermentors, seed isolators, centrifuges, and filtration units
  • Assist with reading and reporting test results using scientific instruments
  • Use mechanical skills to identify mechanical problems and maintain equipment
  • Clean areas according to specific SOPs
  • Obtain a license and operate mobile powered material handling equipment (e.g., forklift, tank tugs)
  • Perform supplemental duties as assigned by supervision

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Basic mechanical skills
  • Knowledge of personal computers using Windows-based applications

Skills

  • Learn and apply basic microbiological techniques for culture preparation and maintenance
  • Operate, clean, and perform minor maintenance on fermentation and related equipment
  • Use mechanical skills to identify and address equipment issues
  • Read and report test results using scientific instruments
  • Perform mathematical calculations and metric conversions
  • Comply with SOPs and complete required documentation
  • Demonstrate understanding of GMPs
  • Maintain a safe work environment and follow safety protocols
  • Operate mobile powered material handling equipment (e.g., forklift, tank tugs)

Physical requirements

  • Exposure to chemicals, fumes, odors, noise, live steam, temperature fluctuations, and biohazards
  • Continuous standing and lifting up to 50 lbs
  • Weekend and holiday work may be required
