Laboratory Technician - Fermentation 2nd shift Monday - Friday 2:00pm - 10:30pm

About the role

Candidate will perform all tasks related to the fermentation of active biological ingredients. This includes learning and understanding basic microbiological techniques associated with the fermentation process, complying with standard operating procedures and regulatory documents, demonstrating strong communication skills, and utilizing mechanical skills to maintain equipment. The role requires maintaining a safe work environment and demonstrating reliability in attendance.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate safe work habits and maintain a safe work environment, complying with safety SOPs and procedures (e.g., Material Safety Data Sheet guidelines, Near Miss reporting, Personal Protective Equipment, biohazard training, Monthly Safety training).
  • Demonstrate reliability in attendance and punctuality.
  • Learn and understand basic microbiological techniques to prepare and maintain cultures, including inoculating, inactivating, harvesting, and dispensing product for bacterial antigen production.
  • Learn and comply with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and associated documentation necessary to perform job functions.
  • Train in Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and demonstrate understanding and compliance.
  • Demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills within and outside the department using verbal, written, and non-verbal skills.
  • Perform mathematical calculations and metric conversions.
  • Learn and assist in completing documentation, including process worksheets and log sheets.
  • Learn to operate, clean, and perform minor maintenance on equipment such as fermentors, seed isolators, centrifuges, and filtration units.
  • Assist with reading and reporting test results using scientific instruments.
  • Use mechanical skills to identify mechanical problems and maintain equipment.
  • Clean areas according to specific SOPs.
  • Obtain a license and operate mobile powered material handling equipment (e.g., forklift, tank tugs).
  • Perform supplemental duties as assigned by supervision.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Basic mechanical skills.
  • Knowledge of personal computers using window-based applications.

Skills

  • Learn and understand basic microbiological techniques for bacterial antigen production.
  • Operate, clean, and perform minor maintenance on fermentation equipment (e.g., fermentors, centrifuges, filtration units).
  • Use mechanical skills to identify and address equipment problems.
  • Read and report test results using scientific instruments.
  • Comply with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
  • Complete documentation, including process worksheets and log sheets.
  • Perform mathematical calculations and metric conversions.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, written, and non-verbal).
  • Operate mobile powered material handling equipment (e.g., forklift, tank tugs).

Physical Requirements

  • Exposure to chemicals, fumes, odors, noise, live steam, and temperature fluctuations.
  • Exposure to biohazards.
  • Continuous standing and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Weekend and holiday work may be required.

Schedule

3rd Shift, Sunday - Thursday, 10:00 PM - 6:30 AM. Overtime, weekends, and holidays may be required.
