Laboratory Technician

Kelly Services® is offering a temp-to-hire opportunity for a Laboratory Technician in Piedmont, SC.

About the Role

Provide testing support for the Piedmont and Rock Hill manufacturing facilities, Product Development, and other needs (raw materials, non-routine testing, etc.). Test and approve all incoming raw materials for both plants. Troubleshoot test equipment problems, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions with or without assistance. Utilize Statistical Process Control (SPC) to analyze control sample data and aid in troubleshooting testing issues to ensure accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to and understand established Fibers Test Methods and Standard Operating Procedures unless authorized by the Quality Manager or designee.
• Perform tests using equipment such as tensile testing machines, gas chromatography, Accelerated Solvent Extractor (ASE), and other lab equipment.
• Notify appropriate personnel of testing issues that may delay data delivery to internal customers.
• Acquire training as needed to support testing needs (LIMS, SAP, new/revised test methods, new lab equipment, skill upgrades).
• Maintain lab equipment through preventative maintenance, calibrations, and cleaning.
• Ensure documentation is accurate and up-to-date (equipment logs, test worksheets, LIMS).
• Perform weekly calibrations of test equipment (spectrophotometers, balances).
• Contribute to continuous improvement of safety, quality, and productivity.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Stable work history.
• Preferred: Two-year/Associate’s technical degree in industrial lab technology or equivalent science-related field, or four years of verifiable on-the-job lab experience in industrial laboratory technology.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stress environment with shifting priorities.
• Must be able to work a 12-hour rotating swing shift (DuPont schedule) and overtime as needed.
• Physical requirements:
  • Use hands/fingers to operate, activate, inspect, and position productivity machinery and computers.
  • Exposure to extreme temperature swings in a production environment.
  • Stand and walk on a concrete floor 75% of the time.
  • Carry, lift, transport, and position materials weighing up to 55 lbs.
  • Push or pull equipment/material weighing up to 150 lbs.
  • Climb stairs, ladders, or balance on work platforms.
  • Stoop, kneel, crouch, or position self to handle production materials.
  • Visual acuity to inspect, assess, and ensure product quality.

Pay

$25/hr - $28/hr (dependent on experience).

Schedule

12-hour rotating swing shift (DuPont schedule) with overtime as needed.
