About the role
We are hiring a Laboratory Technician in Durham, NC. This position involves analyzing and certifying specialty gases, assisting with scheduling, storage, and shipping, and supporting the maintenance of health and safety and ISO quality programs.
Responsibilities
- Performs analysis for specialty gases and finished product testing
- Aids in scheduling, storing, and shipping products
- Operates analytical instrumentation for gas analysis
- Conducts routine production testing and quality control analysis
- Maintains quality alignment with standard operating procedures
- Reviews production records and releases products for distribution
- Prepares gas analysis certification reports
- Collaborates with management on delivery schedules, product complaints, and special requests
- Supports the qualification and maintenance of laboratory standards
- Monitors lead times and collaborates on workload prioritization
- Maintains laboratory instruments according to Airgas SOPs
- Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Associates degree in Chemistry or related field required or 1-5 years of relevant experience in an industrial environment
- QC Lab work preferred
- Knowledge and understanding of analytical chemistry, instrumental analysis, spectroscopy, and statistical methods
- Ability to read and comprehend Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
- Coordination skills and aptitude for high precision work
- Ability to perform essential functions of the Laboratory Technician
- Teamwork and reliability skills
- Ability to operate forklift and maintain forklift certifications
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
Qualifications
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentages
- Ability to work all shifts; subject to all weather conditions
- Physical abilities: Regularly stand, use hands and arms, talk or hear; lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to focus
