Laboratory Technician - 1st Shift, Part Time

Responsibilities

• Use automated analyzers, microscopes, and other laboratory diagnostic tools to perform analyses and tests that diagnose animal illnesses, injuries, and diseases in support of veterinarian treatment.
• Perform diagnostic tests on blood, urine, fecal, or pet biopsy samples received daily by the thousands.
• Set up and run lab tests, then read and release results according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Specialize in either Sample Management or Parasitology.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
• A 2-, 3-, or 4-year degree in a Science-related field is preferred but not required.
• Experience as a Veterinary Technician (RVT, LVT, CVT) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT or MT) is a plus.
• Experience setting up, running, and reading lab tests, and operating laboratory equipment (microscopes, pipetting, and/or clinical diagnostic analyzers) is ideal.
• Positive attitude and ability to bring energy to the lab to support colleagues.
• Strong teamwork skills and a sense of responsibility.
• Attention to detail and ability to work reliably and precisely.
• Ability to meet physical requirements: standing and sitting for extended periods, phone and computer use, extended reach, lifting up to 50lb, and specific vision abilities (close, color, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus).
• Potential exposure to biohazards, agents known to cause zoonotic diseases, and hazardous chemicals.

Pay

Hourly rates targeting: $22.25 per hour.

Schedule

Two different part-time positions and schedules are available:

• Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday, 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM (primarily in Parasitology).
• Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 10:00 AM – 6:30 PM (primarily in Sample Management).
