Laboratory Technical Assistant 1 - FT - Eve/Night - Danbury

Description Summary

Aids technical staff in specimen and equipment preparation for patient testing. Manages inventory of reagents and control materials. Performs clerical functions including specimen accessioning, result reporting, referred testing, and customer service.

Responsibilities

• Maintains daily operations of the front end automation system (MPA) by loading caps, aliquot tubes, and conducting system function checks.
• Loads specimens onto the MPA and delivers samples to designated sections as required.
• Ensures specimen integrity during accessioning and processing using established procedures.
• Prepares control materials, performs preventive maintenance, and completes maintenance logs.
• Oversees temperature recording for refrigerators and freezers.
• Answers phones, ensures customer satisfaction, and adds on additional test requests following laboratory protocol.
• Maintains reagent inventory, labels, stores, and discards specimens as necessary.
• Manages pneumatic tube system and restocks supplies in the work area.
• Communicates effectively with other staff to provide excellent customer service and follow up.
• Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education, Skills, & Experience

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Minimum of three years job-related experience
• Customer service and organizational skills
• AS degree preferred
