Job Summary
Description Kindred Hospital Tarrant County Southwest is a long-term acute care (LTAC) hospital specializing in the treatment of patients recovering from post-intensive care and medically complex conditions. Our hospital provides both intensive care and telemetry-level services, offering advanced monitoring and support for patients requiring extended medical care. With a multidisciplinary team dedicated to personalized treatment plans, we focus on helping patients achieve significant recovery and transition to the next level of care.
Essential Functions
- Performs and reports routine and special laboratory tests on clinical specimens to aid in the diagnosis and monitoring of patients.
- Performs analyses in hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, coagulation, blood bank and microbiology according to expected performance standards.
- Performs venipuncture, finger stick, or heel stick on identified patients by physician's request in a timely, accurate and caring manner.
- Keeps documented records current regarding maintenance and quality control.
- Maintains records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.
- Adheres to the laboratory's quality control policies, documents all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed.
- Follows the laboratory's established corrective action policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable levels of performance.
- Documents all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations
- Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Comprehensive knowledge of applicable safety, quality control, and specimen handling guidelines and procedures.
- Skilled in using applicable laboratory equipment such as centrifuges, meters, microscopes, incubators, pipettes, autoclaves, and sterilizers.
- Ability to work quickly and accurately when under strict deadlines.
- Considerable knowledge of the theory and practice of clinical laboratory methods and instrumentation.
- Working knowledge of anatomy, physiology, laboratory medicine, disease processes, and laboratory procedures.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of all patient and/or employee information to assure patient and/or employee rights are protected.
- Must read, write and speak fluent English.
- Must have good and regular attendance.
Qualifications
- Education: Associate degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution.
- Licenses/Certifications: Current license issued by the State in which the laboratory is located, if such licensing is required. Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician by a nationally recognized agency/board preferred. Current BLS preferred.
- Experience: 1-2 years acute care hospital lab experience in high complexity testing preferred.
