Laboratory Specialist I

About the role

This position supports a large team of scientists working on cutting-edge genomics, cancer biology, and drug discovery. The successful candidate will report to the Cancer Program's Director of Research Operations and will work collaboratively with the program’s scientific groups to support day-to-day tactical needs, ensure laboratory compliance with relevant policies and established protocols, and promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the Cancer Program’s equipment inventory and detailed records regarding all equipment-related events.
• Partner with internal and external stakeholders to coordinate and/or execute equipment maintenance or repairs.
• Organize and execute tasks related to lab operations, including conducting weekly environmental health and safety compliance inspections, coordinating routine equipment maintenance, and assisting with equipment troubleshooting.
• Directly partner with the Receiving Department on the acceptance and distribution of external packages, ensuring proper storage conditions and timely notifications to end users.
• Promote a safety culture by assisting lab managers in ensuring compliance with EH&S policies and initiatives.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying gaps and assisting in the implementation of solutions, new policies, or procedures.
• Assist lab personnel with routine operational readiness related to the proper use and care of all lab equipment.
• Respond to laboratory-related tickets and equipment alarms in a timely manner and maintain detailed records and documentation.
• Assist with other laboratory operational duties as needed.

Requirements

• BS or BA in a related scientific field with 0+ years of experience.
• Experience working in research laboratories and familiarity with standard laboratory operational procedures.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills for a collaborative work environment.
• Foundational understanding and awareness of research techniques performed in relevant laboratories.
• High level of initiative and motivation; ability to work independently and with a team.
• Strong sense of ownership of assigned tasks and duties, along with time management skills.
• Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
• Ability to think creatively to propose and implement solutions.
• Working knowledge of spreadsheets and databases is strongly preferred.
• Ability to meet physical requirements related to routine equipment maintenance and laboratory operations.

Pay

$27.88/hr - $36.86/hr. The expected base pay range is based on a 40-hour per week schedule. Actual compensation will vary based on relevant skills, experience, education, qualifications, and other factors permissible by law.
