About The Job
Working hours for this role are 11pm - 7:30am, Monday - Friday with weekend rotation.
Primary Duties And Responsibilities
- Rounds on the floor to pick up and receive collected specimens by the phlebotomists at specified intervals.
- Receives all patient lab specimens delivered by hospital personnel within a timely and efficient manner.
- Promptly delivers all specimens to the correct technical bench for analysis to take place.
- Verifies the correct chart by checking name and medical record number on slips and on the chart.
- Processes and correctly prepares and stores all patient samples that require reference lab tests sent to ARUP.
- Processes and correctly prepares, stores and transfers all patient samples that require shared testing labs sent to other MedStar Health laboratories.
- Promptly takes results to the proper floors.
- Monitors and maintains central processing inventory levels.
- Answers phones according to hospital/departmental policy.
Minimal Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED, required.
- Experience: 1-2 years prior specimen processing experience, preferred.
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Comprehend and follow the policies and procedures for MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center.
- Read, write, and speak or communicate in English to successfully accomplish the essential duties of the position.
- Demonstrate ethical behavior that supports the hospital's mission values and commitment to compliance with all federal, state and regulatory laws.

- Exhibit professionalism, courtesy, and excellent customer service while interacting with patients, guests, and co-workers.

Hiring Range
This position has a hiring range of USD $19.55 - USD $34.25 /Hr.
