Laboratory Processing Technician
About the role
As a Laboratory Research Assistant at Sarah Cannon Research Institute (SCRI), you will play a crucial role in advancing cancer treatments and improving patient outcomes. You will be responsible for performing high-level medical laboratory processing procedures, assisting with the training of new Lab Technicians, and processing and shipping various samples according to specific protocols.
Responsibilities
- Initiate improvements, tools, processes, and forms to enhance the efficiency and quality of work in the lab
- Aid in the training of new Lab Technicians
- Process and ship bone marrow samples according to lab instructions provided by study sponsors
- Process and ship PK/pharmacodynamic and other samples according to instructions provided by study sponsors
- Be the primary processor and trainer for specific procedures requested by study sponsors
- Attend the lab portion of the site initiation visit (SIV) when possible
- Prepare study supplies/source documents necessary for obtaining lab samples prior to patient treatment
- Utilize electronic medical record (EMR) for source documentation
- Maintain accurate freezer sample logs
- Maintain accurate records of sample acquisition and shipping
- Ensure there is an adequate supply of dry ice available for shipments
- Respond to queries generated from study sponsors or contract labs regarding patient/sample data
- Interface with Research Nurses to ensure correct lab kits are prepared and necessary specimens are collected per lab manual
- Coordinate with Medical Center laboratory personnel regarding labs for research patients
Requirements
- Vocational training or certification in laboratory science and/or phlebotomy
- Current BLS certification
- Knowledge of OSHA requirements for safe handling of blood and body fluids
- Skill in venipuncture and blood processing
- At least one year of clinical laboratory and phlebotomy or equivalent experience
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience in a clinical laboratory setting
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Skills
- Proficiency in electronic medical record (EMR) systems
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively

Pay
The salary range for this position is determined by several factors, including performance, experience, and skills, and is subject to change based on market conditions and individual circumstances.
Schedule
Hours are typically Monday through Friday, with occasional evening and weekend work required for site initiation visits and other responsibilities.
