About the role
The Research Hemostasis & Coagulation Core Lab in the Department of Anesthesiology at Emory University is seeking a Laboratory Manager to oversee a translational research laboratory focusing on coagulation and hemostasis in perioperative, critical care, and trauma settings.
Responsibilities
- Oversees daily laboratory operations, including sample receipt, processing, workflow coordination, and scheduling to ensure timely, high-quality services.
- Supervises (generally ten or more employees) and trains laboratory staff, students, and trainees; provides ongoing performance feedback and helps prioritize day-to-day work.
- Manages and maintains coagulation/hemostasis instrumentation, including routine maintenance, basic troubleshooting, and coordination of service.
- Implements and maintains standard operating procedures (SOPs), quality control and quality assurance processes, and required documentation.
- Ensures compliance with institutional and regulatory requirements related to biosafety, human specimen handling, chemical safety, and lab safety training.
- Captures and coordinates sample logistics, assay scheduling, and data return for research projects.
- Maintains supply levels, places orders, manages inventory, and tracks equipment service contracts to support uninterrupted operations.
- Assists with basic budget and recharge-related tasks, such as tracking service usage, providing information for billing and rate setting, in collaboration with departmental administration and the Scientific Director.
- Performs bench work as needed to support assay performance, validation of new methods, and troubleshooting.
- Designs instrumentation, theoretical models, equipment, and other vehicles for data gathering and analysis.
- Designs and applies scientific and numerical models in research.
- Oversees development and integrity of data collection and instruments.
- Responsible for administrative, financial, staffing, and planning aspects of research.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a biological science, clinical laboratory science, biomedical engineering, or related field.
- At least three years of relevant professional research or clinical laboratory experience, with experience in coagulation, hemostasis, or hematology strongly preferred.
- Prior experience supervising or leading laboratory personnel or teams.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills; demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse group of investigators, staff, and trainees.
- Five years of professional research experience.
- Three years of supervisory experience.
