About the role
Performs advanced laboratory testing on retail products, including children’s toys, while applying specialized technical expertise to ensure product quality, safety, and compliance. Executes a range of complex lab operations and supports broader testing initiatives.Responsibilities
- Perform physical and mechanical use-and-abuse testing on consumer products, including torque, tension, compression, bite, impact, and stability evaluations.
- Conduct specialized candle testing, including burn testing, flame height measurement, stability assessments, and identification of potential hazards.
- Perform standard and non-standard chemical, mechanical, and/or electrical analyses within a laboratory environment.
- Execute chemistry submissions, prepare material breakdowns, and support sample and material collection.
- Accurately record and evaluate test results, documenting procedures, equipment used, observations, and applicable criteria on standardized data sheets.
- Prepare clear and accurate final laboratory testing reports.
- Collect, label, store, and manage samples, including proper disposal or return in accordance with procedures.
- Install, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment; perform calibration and minor repairs as needed.
- Ensure strict compliance with applicable industry standards and regulations, including ASTM F963, CPSIA, and 16 CFR.
- Support the Laboratory Manager in implementing new testing methods, including validation and documentation activities.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external laboratories to resolve technical issues and troubleshoot complex testing challenges.
- Coordinate projects by communicating directly with clients, managing project setup, and partnering with quoting and sales teams.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 3-5 years of professional experience in related area.
- Strong mechanical background with practical experience using hand tools such as pliers, force gauges, clamps, and measuring devices.
- Proficiency in computer applications, specifically Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, SharePoint) and SAP.
- Experience with or the ability to quickly learn Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
- Exceptional attention to detail with a strong commitment to scientific reproducibility and repeatability in test results.
- Highly adaptable mindset, with a willingness to learn and strictly follow established laboratory methodologies.
- Strong organizational skills to balance hands-on testing with administrative and project coordination duties.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as engineering, science, or technology.
- Technical certifications: Possession of relevant technical certifications may be preferred.
Skills
