About the role
Performs venipuncture and capillary punctures for blood tests and adheres to all safety requirements. Receives and distributes specimens in the laboratory. Processes specimens for testing, storage, and sends them to reference laboratories. Demonstrates knowledge of specimen requirements and limitations of testing procedures. Performs waived testing as needed. Understands the functionality of the lab's automation line. Acts as a resource for laboratory information.
Responsibilities
- Performs venipuncture and capillary punctures for blood tests and adheres to all safety requirements.
- Receives and distributes specimens in the laboratory.
- Processes specimens for testing, storage, and sends them to reference laboratories.
- Demonstrates knowledge of specimen requirements and limitations of testing procedures.
- Performs waived testing as required.
- Understands the functionality of the lab's automation line.
- Acts as a resource for laboratory information.
Qualifications
- High school education or equivalent.
- Requires some knowledge of medical terminology.
- 3 months phlebotomy experience, or a phlebotomy certificate with 32 hours of clinical rotation, or 6 months experience in a medical field providing patient care which includes drawing blood or blood processing, or current MLT student in clinical rotations, or one or more college level courses in a biological science (Above requirements can be met by the equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) training or re-training is required during orientation prior to providing patient care. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) is required to be maintained thru re-training for duration of employment.
Compensation/Benefits
- $15.45-$25.24/hr depending on previous work experience.
- Position qualifies for $1.75/hr PRN differential.
