About the role
This entry level position performs pre-analytical laboratory work that assists in the diagnosis and treatment of OU Health patients.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for the receiving, processing and distribution of specimens for multiple laboratory sections including specimen transport
- Enters patient information and test orders into Electronic Health Record
- Operates laboratory equipment such as (but not limited to) scales, centrifuges and incubators
- Performs and documents proper maintenance of instrumentation and equipment following all safety and regulatory requirements
- Performs miscellaneous clerical duties such as answering the telephone, file and prepare records for filing
- Participates in continuing education, professional development and research activities to maintain competencies and promote continuous improvements in care and treatments
- Knowledge of computer data entry and keyboard skills
- Maintains clean work station
- Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required
- 0-3 years of experience required
- Must have skills and abilities to perform required laboratory procedures
- Must be able to work as part of a team and follow instructions; must be able to consistently and dependably report to work as scheduled
- Ability to maintain accurate records and work accurately with names, numbers, and codes
- Ability to exercise discretion in handling confidential information and exercise sound judgment
- Must be able to multi-task and remain calm in stressful situations
- Must possess ability to understand various operations, policies, and procedures
- Ability to work and communicate with co-workers and other caregivers, and meet their needs in a professional, polite, courteous, compassionate, and cooperative manner
- Must display a high level of initiative, effort and commitment towards establishing priorities and completing assignments efficiently
- Ability to work with minimum supervision and demonstrate attention to detail
- Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age appropriate care within the laboratory
- Completes annual competency assessment
- Assumes responsibility of own professional development
