About the role
We are seeking a seasonal Laboratory Assistant responsible for supporting laboratory testing operations and assisting assigned laboratory sections as required to meet daily operational needs.
Responsibilities
- Adhere to company policies, procedures, and directions regarding standards of workplace behavior in completing job duties and assignments.
- Follow safety requirements as described in the company Safety Manual and communicate all safety concerns and incidents to the Safety Representative.
- Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures.
- Follow Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) requirements without deviation, except were approved by Supervisor or Manager.
- Adhere to strict QA/QC requirements.
- Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality.
- Prepare and standardize reagents and solutions as required.
- Prepare calibration and quality control standards, duplicate and spike samples.
- Clean all glassware and other containers required for sample preparation and analysis.
- Evaluate data and troubleshoot problems with instruments, support equipment, and sample preparation processes.
- Perform instrument/equipment calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair as required.
- Organize workload to meet Turn Around Times (TATs) and hold times.
- Create work lists, workgroups, sample tables and other computer tasks as assigned.
- Properly completing all paperwork used to track tests and their validity.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Store and dispose of samples properly.
Required Qualifications
- A high school diploma or laboratory experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of good laboratory practice.
- Comfortable in a high-paced production environment.
Physical Demands
- Ability to lift to 30 lbs./14 kg on a regular basis and carry for short distances.
- Ability to sit or stand for a full shift.
- Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks.
- You will be exposed to unpleasant fumes.
- Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as dust masks, goggles, gloves etc., when required.
- Able to speak and hear clearly while communicating with co-workers and managers.
- Able to see to read reports and operate equipment.
- Hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.
