About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Laboratory Assistant PRN at Parham Doctors' Hospital, part of HCA Healthcare, the nation's leading provider of healthcare services.

Responsibilities

Know, understand, and apply general lab policies/procedures as well as department/section-specific policies/procedures.
Adhere to all regulatory guidelines and review posted policy changes as required.
Assess situations, consider options, and formulate appropriate courses of action with minimal supervision.
Demonstrate initial and annual competency in all designated lab sections within set deadlines.
Accurately perform tasks when scheduled and participate in continuing education activities.
Complete mandatory facility/corporate training annually and as required within deadlines.
Assist the laboratory team with miscellaneous duties, including specimen receiving and supply management.
Organize and complete daily tasks in assigned areas.
Investigate and resolve specimen collection problems using tools like the Outstanding Specimen Report (OSR) and specimen tracking; document and communicate actions taken.
Train new employees and/or students on general and department-specific lab policies/procedures.
Explain procedures and use appropriate communication interventions for all ages and populations.
Adhere to all policies relating to The Joint Commission (TJC) National Patient Safety Goals for the Laboratory, including patient identification and effective communication with caregivers.

Requirements

Minimum of 3 months of phlebotomy experience or training from an accredited school of phlebotomy.
High school diploma or equivalent.

Qualifications

Preferred:

At least 1 year of phlebotomy experience.
Specimen handling experience.
Phlebotomy training from an approved school.
Phlebotomy certification (e.g., ASCP/ASPT).
