Laboratory Assistant - Pre-Analytics - Per Diem 8 Hour Evenings (Non-Exempt) (Union)

About the role

The Laboratory Assistant supports the department by procuring blood samples, preserving specimen integrity, and transporting and preparing samples. They also handle clerical tasks like answering phone calls, disseminating reports, and communicating with external labs.

Responsibilities

• Obtains blood samples through venipuncture or capillary methods.
• Screens specimens for acceptability according to established guidelines.
• Delivers blood products to surgery and transports surgical specimens to the appropriate sections of the laboratory.
• Processes, distributes, or packages all specimens received (excluding Anatomic Pathology samples).
• Communicates with patients, co-workers, and guests, providing accurate information about the department and its functions.
• Adheres to hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
• Carries out additional clinical and clerical duties as needed.
• Maintains professional growth and participates in quality improvement initiatives.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Graduate from an accredited Phlebotomy Program.
• One year of experience in Phlebotomy, preferably in an acute care facility setting.
• Computer skills in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Pay

The hourly rate range for this position is $23.00 - $40.66.
