Responsibilities

• Completes culture setup of microbiology samples and gram stain preparation when staffed in Microbiology department.
• Provides laboratory customer service, including request for add-ons, specimen collection information, phlebotomy requests, result inquiries, etc.
• Operates, maintains, and repairs clinical laboratory equipment within the scope of training, including waived testing, routine preventative maintenance, calibrations, quality control, and safety checks.
• Supports technologists by loading and maintaining instruments, making up reagents, thawing, pooling, importing, and issuing blood products, and performing maintenance and function checks.
• Aids in the preparation and processing of bone marrow specimens.
• Assists with receiving, identifying, accessioning, processing, and transporting specimens.
• Performs clerical duties, maintains equipment and supplies, and keeps work area safe and organized.
• Performs phlebotomy to ensure accurate and timely processing of lab test orders.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Six (6) months of prior experience as a lab assistant
• Certification in Phlebotomy preferred
