About the role

Labcorp is seeking a Laboratory Assistant I to join our Histology team in Torrance, CA. This position supports the preparation and analysis of biological specimens while maintaining a safe, organized, and efficient laboratory environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform department-specific duties as outlined in the task list and training checklist.
• Adhere to Safety SOPs and Universal Precaution guidelines; maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment. Minimize biohazard waste and clean workstations daily.
• Demonstrate proficiency in applicable computer systems and software.
• Handle specimens independently, resolve specimen issues, and ensure proper preparation for analysis and storage. Contact internal clients for clarification as needed. Follow written department SOPs and generate audit trails for all activities.
• Support testing personnel by receiving, opening, and placing reagents in service according to SOPs. Prepare, label, and document reagents and quality control materials accurately.
• Perform clerical functions, including timely filing of department records, printing worksheets, and preparing data for archival.
• Assist in training new employees and follow up to ensure understanding.
• Maintain instruments and equipment according to manufacturer and SOP requirements; document maintenance and notify management of issues.
• Perform pipette calibrations and document according to SOP.

Requirements

• Associate’s Degree; experience may be substituted for education.
• Comfortability with handling biological specimens.
• Ability to accurately identify specimens.
• Basic computer knowledge and data entry skills.
• Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
• High level of attention to detail with the ability to prioritize and multitask.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment and meet established turn-around times.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position.
• Able to pass a standardized color blindness test.
• Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs.

Preferred Qualifications

• One year of laboratory assistant experience.
• Bachelor’s Degree in a related science field.

Schedule

Tuesday–Saturday, 11:00 AM–7:30 PM.

Pay

Pay range: $17.81–$26.12 per hour. All job offers will be based on a candidate’s skills, prior relevant experience, applicable degrees/certifications, as well as internal equity and market data.
