Laboratory Assistant

About the Role

As our Laboratory Assistant, you will contribute to the vital operations of our lab, primarily within specimen processing/intake, ensuring efficient and accurate handling of essential samples. You will assist with specimen management and clerical duties, perform blood collection and specimen processing, and potentially conduct waived or moderately complex testing as permitted by regulations and departmental needs. Success in this role requires meticulous attention to detail, strong organizational skills, a collaborative spirit, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of quality and safety within our laboratory environment.

Responsibilities

• Practice positive patient identification at all times, in all job functions.
• Process specimens into the lab, organized for department distribution.
• Move processed samples quickly to laboratory departments for testing.
• Handle Laboratory Sendout testing.
• Process, organize, packing lists, and package specimens for testing sent to external laboratories according to procedures.
• Perform phlebotomy, including venous and capillary punctures on all age groups of inpatient and outpatient populations, including blood bank collections.
• Utilize appropriate collection techniques to obtain quality samples and adhere to appropriate volume requirements.
• Use good judgment when problem-solving and request help when needed.
• Take responsibility for the department workflow, assist all members of the team to maintain department workflow and efficiency.
• Create an atmosphere by manner, work, and deed that fosters teamwork and collaboration.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or G.E.D. (required).
• Associate's or Bachelor's Degree (preferred).
• Previous clinical laboratory experience.
• MLA (ASCP) or Phlebotomy certification such as PBT(ASCP) or equivalent certification.

Pay

$17.00 - $26.94 per hour.
