Laboratory Animal Sciences Technician III

About the role

The Laboratory Animal Sciences Technician 3 will perform a variety of tasks following established techniques and procedures. The Technician will assist in study execution; collect samples from and administer agents to research animals as IACUC approved studies require. Will exercise judgment in the collection and processing of samples such as blood, serum, plasma, tissue and urine. Works with a variety of animal species and work assignments are relatively complex. Tasks will involve both in-vivo and in-vitro procedures.

Responsibilities

• Documents laboratory work to acceptable standards
• Maintains laboratory/medical equipment and supplies in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), protocols and regulations
• Auxiliary in administrative functions of study execution such as labeling collection tubes and transporting supplies to appropriate area
• Quality control review of data
• Coordinating sample shipment
• Acting as shift or study lead
• Scheduling team work assignments
• Acting as primary point of contact for the study director for a particular shift

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent and 3-5 years of related experience in a research, commercial or hospital laboratory
• An associate’s degree and 2-4 years of experience in a research, commercial or hospital laboratory, must have a minimum of 3 years of animal experience
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• The ability to work independently and as a part of a team

Qualifications

• Preferred computer proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Internet Explorer, Outlook and the ability to learn department-specific computer systems as needed
• The ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and other heavy equipment, pushing, bending, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, outdoor work, working in extremes temperature and humidity
• Must be able to wear a respirator and protective clothing or equipment
