About the role

The Laboratory Animal Sciences Technician will perform a variety of tasks following established techniques and procedures. The Technician will assist in study execution; maintain animal areas, supplies and equipment; collect samples from and administer agents to research animals as IACUC approved studies require. Documents laboratory work to acceptable standards and maintains laboratory/medical equipment and supplies in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), protocols and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in study execution
  • Maintain animal areas, supplies and equipment
  • Collect samples from and administer agents to research animals as IACUC approved studies require
  • Document laboratory work to acceptable standards
  • Maintain laboratory/medical equipment and supplies in accordance with SOPs, protocols and regulations
  • Assist in administrative functions of study execution such as labeling collection tubes and transporting supplies to appropriate area
  • Perform all other related duties and tasks as required or assigned

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent and one year of demonstrated work experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to work independently and as a part of a team
  • Preferred computer proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Internet Explorer, Outlook and the ability to learn department-specific computer systems as needed
  • The ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and other heavy equipment, push, bend, stoop, climb, prolonged standing, outdoor work, working in extremes temperature and humidity
  • Must be able to wear a respirator and protective clothing or equipment

Requirements

  • A Post-offer physical and background check/security clearance are required
  • Ability to gain and maintain access to Kirtland Air Force base (KAFB) is required
  • ALAT Certification is preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Work is performed in a wet laboratory environment
  • Frequently stand, walk, sit, perform lab- and desk-based computer tasks, perform laboratory techniques requiring grasping/pipetting/hand dexterity, perform repetitive motions and occasionally lift objects that weigh up to 50 pounds
  • Wear personal protective equipment which may include a respirator
  • May work in close proximity to an environment containing research animals and may be required to work with or be in areas where hazardous materials and/or infectious agents are present which may require vaccinations

Pay

Salary is commensurate with experience + $500 sign-on bonus.
