About the role
The Laboratory Animal Sciences Technician will perform a variety of tasks following established techniques and procedures. The Technician will assist in study execution; maintain animal areas, supplies and equipment; collect samples from and administer agents to research animals as IACUC approved studies require. Documents laboratory work to acceptable standards and maintains laboratory/medical equipment and supplies in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), protocols and regulations.
Responsibilities
- Assist in study execution
- Maintain animal areas, supplies and equipment
- Collect samples from and administer agents to research animals as IACUC approved studies require
- Document laboratory work to acceptable standards
- Maintain laboratory/medical equipment and supplies in accordance with SOPs, protocols and regulations
- Assist in administrative functions of study execution such as labeling collection tubes and transporting supplies to appropriate area
- Perform all other related duties and tasks as required or assigned
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent and one year of demonstrated work experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- The ability to work independently and as a part of a team
- Preferred computer proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Internet Explorer, Outlook and the ability to learn department-specific computer systems as needed
- The ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and other heavy equipment, push, bend, stoop, climb, prolonged standing, outdoor work, working in extremes temperature and humidity
- Must be able to wear a respirator and protective clothing or equipment
Requirements
- A Post-offer physical and background check/security clearance are required
- Ability to gain and maintain access to Kirtland Air Force base (KAFB) is required
- ALAT Certification is preferred
Physical Requirements
- Work is performed in a wet laboratory environment
- Frequently stand, walk, sit, perform lab- and desk-based computer tasks, perform laboratory techniques requiring grasping/pipetting/hand dexterity, perform repetitive motions and occasionally lift objects that weigh up to 50 pounds
- Wear personal protective equipment which may include a respirator
- May work in close proximity to an environment containing research animals and may be required to work with or be in areas where hazardous materials and/or infectious agents are present which may require vaccinations
Pay
Salary is commensurate with experience + $500 sign-on bonus.
