About the Role
The Laboratory Aide II supports laboratory operations by registering orders, accessioning and transporting specimens, and ensuring equipment cleanliness. They assist pathologists with procedures and handle specimen labeling, processing, and referral to external labs, including complex molecular and genomic tests.
Responsibilities
- Accession specimens and operate laboratory equipment
- Manage supplies and troubleshoot registration issues
- Prepare specimens for referral, including complex molecular and genomic tests
- Perform equipment maintenance and ensure cleanliness
- Participate in training new staff
- Communicate professionally with healthcare departments
- Assist with onsite procedures such as biopsies and microtomy
- Participate in educational programs and ensure specimen quality
- Support compliance with inspection and accreditation standards
- May perform moderate complexity testing and support pathology procedures, depending on the campus
Requirements
- High School Diploma required
- Phlebotomy certification preferred
- Strong manual dexterity and attention to detail
- Ability to operate lab equipment and computers
Physical Requirements
- Standing, walking, and bending for extended periods
- Occasional lifting up to 30 pounds
