Laboratory Administrative Officer
About the role
This position is located in the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Office of Forensic Sciences, Field Laboratory.
Responsibilities
- Plan and carry out a wide variety of safety and security, administrative, fiscal and evidentiary management activities, policy research and other duties related to the operational support functions.
- Serve as an expert on the development and implementation of major administrative policies and requirements for substantive, mission-oriented programs and operations.
- Coordinate implementation of new DEA administrative programs and systems within the organization such as application of new budgetary procedures, implementation of new safety standards or evaluation of improved evidence handling systems.
- Manage all safety and security aspects of the laboratory to include evidence storage, documentation, safekeeping, inventory and disposition.
- Exercise supervisory and/or managerial authorities and provide occupational specific technical and administrative direction at least 25% or more of the time over subordinate employees performing the work and functions of the organization.
- Assign work to subordinate employees based on organization priorities and consideration of difficulty and requirements of assignments such that the experience, training, and abilities of staff are effectively utilized to meet organization and customer needs.
Requirements
Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) employees in the competitive service on a career or career conditional appointment. Eligible displaced and surplus Department of Justice (DOJ) employees in the local commuting area.
Qualifications
- At least one full year of specialized experience that is at least equivalent to work performed at the GS-12 grade level, managing the storage, documentation, safekeeping, inventorying and disposition of forensic evidence seized across various Divisions, and other Federal law enforcement agencies.
- Implementing and managing Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs for the laboratory within the guidelines mandated by DEA headquarters.
- Ensuring that the work of the section/unit employees complies with legal and regulatory requirements and meets agency or customer needs.
