About the role

Provides direct patient care in the Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum setting. Provides assessment and planning for individualized patient care. Communicates with providers about changes in patient’s clinical condition, including results of diagnostic studies. Responds quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Performs general nursing duties in the Perinatal Department.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a current valid RN license with the state of Idaho
  • Completion of BLS at the time of hire or within 14 days of employment
  • Completion of AWHONN Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Heart Monitoring Principles and Practice prior to completion of labor orientation or as soon as possible, or current RNC-EFM
  • Renew every 2 years or maintain EFM
  • Completion of ACLS within 6 months of hire
  • Completion of STABLE within 6 months of hire
  • Completion of all required Labor and Maternal Newborn orientation competencies prior to coming off orientation, and thereafter attend biannual skills lab to maintain competency
  • Completion of QMP-OB, Baby Catching, & Scrub competencies within 6 months
  • Basic computer skills
  • Able to use I.V. pumps, radiant warmer, fetal monitoring devices, leg compression devices, PCA pump and respiratory equipment, etc.
  • Excellent communication skills and leadership capability
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations. Ability to calculate drug dosages
  • Possess critical thinking and organizational skills. Ability to prioritize patient care for safety and best optimal outcome. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
  • Able to work well with others. Able to de-escalate volatile situations. Able to consider constructive instruction
  • Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily

Qualifications

  • 3 years previous labor and/or postpartum experience (preferred)
  • Basic Computer Skills
  • Able to use I.V. pumps, radiant warmer, fetal monitoring devices, leg compression devices, PCA pump and respiratory equipment, etc.
  • Excellent communication skills and leadership capability
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations. Ability to calculate drug dosages
  • Mental Capabilities: Possess critical thinking and organizational skills. Ability to prioritize patient care for safety and best optimal outcome. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
