About the role

Fully remote position; ideal candidates currently reside in the Midwest or Western states. This role supports the company’s regulatory compliance function, ensuring the company meets all labeling requirements, food regulations, and compliance with AFNA specifications and government regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop labeling information for products and provide final approval, review, and assessment for accuracy in accordance with master/test recipes and production sheets.
  • Create labels for immediate and/or shipping containers.
  • Prepare and maintain label transmittals for USDA approvals and carry out generic approvals.
  • Stay informed of new and updated labeling regulations from federal agencies (USDA, FDA, FTC, TTB, CBP) as well as local and state agencies, and present findings to cross-functional teams.
  • Ensure imported products contain informative and truthful labeling in English, complying with the FD&C Act and related regulations.
  • Systematically review recipes for accuracy and report findings to managers and supervisors.
  • Review and approve product specifications for packaging, supplier information, and certification.
  • Generate product specifications and nutrition facts for finished products.
  • Provide direction on completing specific documents requested by customers.
  • Verify the accuracy of supplier information for packaging materials.
  • Research standards of food ingredients and additives set by global organizations (e.g., JECFA, IPCS INCHEM).
  • Obtain necessary information from foreign suppliers to ensure ingredients meet FDA standards and that only approved additives are used.
  • Keep abreast of updates on USDA’s Export Libraries and regulations from CFIA, Canadian labeling consultants, and Mexico’s R&D Technical database system.
  • Approve updates to the R&D technical database with master recipes via change forms.
  • Confirm accuracy with the R&D technical database and Bill of Materials (BOM).
  • Check and confirm working comparisons of batch size to recipe.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree (BA or BS) in food science and technology, or 6-8 years of related experience/training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with FDA, USDA, import/export, Child Nutrition labeling regulations, and Research and Development.
  • Solid understanding of nutritional trends, regulations, and policies.
  • Ability to develop appropriate protocols and execute complex nutritional calculations.
  • Proficiency in interpreting multiple regulations and federal guidance documents.
  • Proficient knowledge of international labeling regulations (Mexico, Canada, South America, and Asia).

Pay

Range of pay: $95,000 - $105,000, plus 15% annual bonus potential.
