About the role
Provides skilled technical assistance in an R&D testing laboratory.
Responsibilities
- Perform testing under supervision to assess various properties of implants and instruments
- Support characterizations, design verification, risk assessment and supplier changes of orthopedic implants and instrumentation
- Include communication with multiple disciplines, knowledge of testing apparatus/methodology, and data reporting
- Perform materials, kinematics, and/or impaction testing such as photography, metallographic sample preparation, optical and digital microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, hardness, wear testing, and manual or automated impaction testing
- Prepare test specimens and perform laboratory experiments per provided protocols
- Analyze data using statistical analysis
- Document test methods and results; co-author test reports
- Maintain laboratory records
- Assure equipment is in proper working condition, including facilitating repairs
- Facilitate the ordering of necessary supplies
- Ensure adherence to all company policies and procedures, including safety precautions within the work area
- Responsible for communicating business related issues or opportunities to next management level
- Responsible for ensuring personal and Company compliance with all Federal, State, local and Company regulations, policies, and procedures
- Perform other duties assigned as needed
- Clearly and professionally communicate test findings, technical challenges, and proposed resolutions to team members
Qualifications
- 0-2 years of related experience and a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, or Biomedical Engineering
- Experience in the Medical Device industry is preferred
Skills
- Hands-on experience with laboratory experiments per provided protocols
- Ability to perform duties in accordance with policies and procedures
- Ability to enter data in electronic notebook application
- Ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively with diverse team members
- Verbal and written communication skills, computer skills, task management, problem solving, and mechanical aptitude
- Familiarity with material manufacturing processes; material mechanical, physical, and chemical testing; and material characterization is preferred
