About the role

Epiphany Dermatology is a dynamic, fast-growing dermatology services company headquartered in Austin, TX, on a mission to improve access to dermatology services and provide exceptional patient care in underserved markets across the U.S. We are seeking a service-oriented, motivated Lab Technician to join our team and help accomplish this mission. Responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory tasks related to receiving, organizing, and preparing patient tissue samples for macroscopic evaluation by the Grossing Technician, including:
    • Confirming patient identity
    • Accessioning specimens and preparing and correctly labeling specimen blocks
  • Assist with gross entry by entering information provided by the Grossing Technician into the patient’s electronic medical record
  • Maintain general lab operations, including slide and block organization and storage
  • Maintain CLIA-required records and documentation
  • Adhere to all safety protocols, including filtering formalin and ensuring proper disposal of biohazard materials
  • Monitor expiration dates and track usage trends for lab supplies, making recommendations for adjustments as needed
  • Ensure compliance with infection control guidelines for handling blood/body fluids, biohazard materials, and potentially infectious waste
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to work with an Electronic Health Record (EHR) and related e-systems
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to handle multiple tasks and follow through to completion
  • Self-motivated in identifying learning needs and seeking appropriate resources
  • Maintain regular, reliable, and on-site attendance as scheduled
  • Foster positive relationships with patients, families, peers, vendors, and team members

Qualifications

  • Prior experience in an anatomic pathology laboratory preferred but not required
  • An associate degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution (or equivalent combination of training and education) preferred but not required
  • Ideally, 60 semester credit hours from an accredited institution, including:
    • 6 semester credit hours of chemistry
    • 6 semester credit hours of biology
    • 12 semester credit hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

This role operates in a medical office, procedure/exam room, and laboratory environment, which may include exposure to communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, biohazards, or toxic substances. Daily activities may involve standing, walking, sitting, bending, and lifting items up to 30 lbs.
