About the role
The Lab Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of microbiological testing and sampling at Hilmar Cheese Company's facility. They are responsible for maintaining files, entering results into databases, interpreting results, initiating endpoint testing, and compiling data.
Responsibilities
- Accurately perform all microbiological testing and sampling
- Maintain files and enter results into data base
- Interpret results and initiate endpoint testing as needed
- Maintain ledgers and equipment to validate all processes
- Aid in the compilation of data or initiation of new testing as needed
- Learn and efficiently perform lab tests currently conducted and those initiated in the future
- Assist in assuming duties and solving problems independently
- Enter test results into the database and generate reports
- Comply with all internal and external lab proficiency tests
- Perform tasks as assigned by the supervisor
- Demonstrate proficiency on position-specific needs and analysis requirements
- Demonstrate compliance with proficiency tests by generating results within 2 z-scores
- Take written procedures, order supplies, and start testing independently
- Establish effective working relationships with internal customers
- Manage and maintain confidential information
- Adhere to professional standards and demonstrate sound judgment during peak activity periods
- Complete annual OSHA required safety training
Requirements
- Proficient in English reading, writing, and speaking
- High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution with 1 year lab experience
- Intermediate experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
- Open to working weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
What Will Put You Ahead
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Biological Sciences, or related field
- Experience in a Lab I, II, or III role or 1 year lab experience
- Intermediate experience in SAP
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Completed or in the process of completing HCC Level 1 Leadership training

- Stand and walk almost the entire workday
- Work at heights and in small areas
- Pushing, pulling, reaching, bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, handling, grasping, twisting/turning, and repetitive bending
Schedule
Rotating shifts including day, swing, and graveyard shifts
