About the role

The Lab Tech Assistant is responsible for laboratory duties including preparing specimens for analysis by registering and accessioning orders, verifying specimen acceptability, and performing established pre-analytical and analytical laboratory procedures. This role also involves phlebotomy and specimen collection, maintaining inventory, stocking supplies, waived testing, and slide preparation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent customer service by greeting patients and the community respectfully.
  • Collect blood specimens from patients following established venipuncture procedures and transport specimens to the testing laboratory while ensuring specimen integrity.
  • Support technologists by assisting with loading and maintaining instruments, preparing reagents, thawing, pooling, importing, and issuing blood products.
  • Recognize instrument and equipment malfunctions and report issues to appropriate personnel.
  • Perform department-related clerical duties such as checking inventory, stocking supplies, and answering phones.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve problems promptly.
  • Travel to off-site locations as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Degree or GED (required).
  • Associate degree in Biology or Chemistry (preferred).
  • Laboratory experience preferred but not required.
  • Keyboarding or data entry experience preferred but not required.
