About the role
We are looking for a Phlebotomist/Lab Tech Assistant to join our full-service lab team.
Responsibilities
- Collects blood specimens (e.g., venous, capillary, etc.) and urine specimens, including proper drug screen collections (venipunctures on neonates are N/A in the outpatient area and on the inpatient units; may be required to rotate to the off-site laboratory).
- Performs patient functions in the Hospital Information System (HIS) (e.g., registers, orders, updates, prints labels, etc.).
- Performs various lab duties such as centrifuging samples, places tubes on analyzers (CBC), and other lab duties/testing as deemed competent to perform.
- Answers telephone, takes and relays messages; communicates test results.
- Prints daily and final cumulative reports; sorts reports and properly distributes.
- Maintains adequate inventory of necessary supplies; orders supplies; stocks storeroom.
- Assists with training of various college and vocational school students.
- Works flexible hours to adequately staff the department.
Requirements
- Completion of post-secondary program in Phlebotomy/Medical Assistant and experience as a laboratory phlebotomist preferred, and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- National Phlebotomy Society certification, National Society Clinical Pathology preferred, or other assisting certification(s).
Schedule
- Shifts: Morning (6am–2:30pm), Mid (10am–6:30pm).
- Hours: 80 per pay period (every two weeks).
