Performs technical procedures in a research laboratory under minimal supervision by applying standard scientific techniques and analytical principles.

Responsibilities

  • Perform quality control testing and inspection of raw materials, formulas, and ingredients within a laboratory environment to meet current quality standards.
  • Maintain documentation of tests, interpret results, and prepare reports.
  • Perform senior-level laboratory tests, experiments, and analyses.
  • Prepare and weigh samples for testing and analysis.
  • Conduct tests, assays, and other protocols under the direction of a laboratory services manager, physician, nurse, or scientist.
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs).
  • Ensure all laboratory equipment and work areas are clean, sterile, and in proper working order.
  • Troubleshoot, calibrate, and perform preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment.
  • May assist less-experienced team members.
  • Complete assignments with little supervision.

Work Environment

  • Nearly Continuously: Office environment.
  • Often: Infectious disease, oils (air or skin exposure), hazards (proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, or exposure to chemicals).
  • Seldom: Exposure to animals.

Physical Requirements

  • Nearly Continuously: Hearing, listening, talking.
  • Often: Repetitive hand motion (such as typing), walking, standing, sitting.
  • Seldom: Bending, reaching overhead.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or other scientific disciplines in a related field or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).
  • Knowledge of complex laboratory techniques, equipment, terminology, materials, and substances.
  • Skilled in the use of laboratory equipment, ability to create and analyze statistical calculations, and prepare reports.
  • Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills.
  • OSHA training and certification in animal care and use or willingness to complete the certification may be required by some departments.
  • Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

Pay

$12.02 to $21.50 per hour.

Schedule

Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
