Lab Support Services Manager

Department Job Description Summary

Ensures coverage of the clerical and technical operations of the pathology and diagnostics laboratory.

• Ensures accuracy and timeliness of the billing cycle including credits and cancellations.
• Reviews expensive esoteric sendout tests for medical necessity before sending them out.
• Maintains clinical knowledge by participating in local or national meetings.
• Facilitates continuing education for staff.
• Works with the chairman to oversee the clinical teaching program and ensure goals are met.
• Ensures the laboratory's Quality Control program is compliant with regulations.
• Monitors and documents an active review process and corrective actions.
• Reports performance improvement program initiatives monthly to the director and staff.
• Ensures proficiency testing program is implemented as designed, deficiencies are addressed, and corrective actions are documented.
• Encourages staff participation in improving patient care initiatives and reports results monthly.
• Implements the laboratory safety program ensuring compliance with hospital safety goals.
• Trains staff in computer downtime procedures, disaster preparedness, and safe work practices.
• Improves processes found to be inadequate with management staff.
• Represents the department at relevant committees and hospital teams.
• Evaluates new equipment and technology to enhance patient care.
• Acts as a positive role model for the staff in Service Excellence.
• Strives to improve laboratory morale actively.

Qualifications

• Licensed as a Lab Supervisor or eligible by the State of Florida.
• Education commensurate with licensure.
• Experience: 3-5 years as a Supervisor or Medical Technologist III.
