About the Role
The Lab Specialist role is reporting to the Manager, Technical Process and is based in Christiansburg, VA.
Responsibilities
- Understand and apply all verbal, written and computer work instructions or training in English
- Demonstrate ability to perform simple addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
- Show attention to detail and precision in recording and analyzing data
- Maintain laboratory notebook documenting all analyses while maintaining online records
- Accurately interpret analytical results
- Calibrate, clean, organize, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment to ensure proper functioning and compliance with safety standards
- Maintain a safe laboratory environment by following safety protocols and handling hazardous materials properly
- Perform a wide variety of tests and analyses for processes to keep them within specification
- Maintain laboratory notebook documenting all analyses while maintaining online records
- Accurately interpret analytical results
- Calibrate, clean, organize, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment to ensure proper functioning and compliance with safety standards
- Maintain a safe laboratory environment by following safety protocols and handling hazardous materials properly
- Participate in Continuous Improvement Process
- Successfully perform analyses from established and new procedures using each of the following:
- Atomic absorption spectroscopy
- Powder coating equipment
- Balances
- Wet chemical apparatus
- Microhardness tester
- Precision measuring equipment
- Microscope
- Hull cell tests
- Assist in training / cross-training of others
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- 3 years of relevant experience, education, or a combination of both, with exposure to chemistry or laboratory environments
- Demonstrated ability to understand and apply all verbal, written and computer work instructions or training in English
- Demonstrated ability to perform simple addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
- Show attention to detail and precision in recording and analyzing data
- Maintain laboratory notebook documenting all analyses while maintaining online records
- Accurately interpret analytical results
- Calibrate, clean, organize, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment to ensure proper functioning and compliance with safety standards
- Maintain a safe laboratory environment by following safety protocols and handling hazardous materials properly
- Participate in Continuous Improvement Process

Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field
- Experience: 3+ years of relevant experience in a laboratory setting
- Skills: Strong analytical skills, ability to follow instructions, attention to detail, and proficiency in laboratory equipment operation
